springtime??

A week or so ago, my friend Jake posted about springtime in The City. It hadn't happened here, yet, so I didn't feel the same excitement that he did. But now, I think springtime is here! I look in my yard and I see flowers and green things and it's all very thrilling.

It makes me yearn to go out and dig around in the dirt, swearing at the quail that eat all my seeds and at the giant, useless trash trees that only ever throw branches down on my car. The trees, you see, block the sunlight so that when I try to grow a garden everything is stunted. But I did have 4 tulips (they are done blossoming by now). That is a record for me, and it was totally an accident--absolutely unplanned.

It's surprising to me that we are actually getting a real Spring here, because normally by this time everything is scorched to death, brown and yellow. So although many of you are complaining about the snow and the cold weather, I am happy that my grass is still green!

Here are some (very) amateur photos of the plants and flowers in my yard. I'm still learning what my camera can and can't do. (Add "become able to take beautiful pictures" to my list of summer To Do's)
