Washington DC trees

Brett and I went to DC for Fall Break and stayed with his Uncle Lynn and Aunt Laurel. We had a very nice time. I will post more about our site seeing adventures, but today I wanted to post about the trees.

I loved how many trees were all over in DC and Virginia. It was so beautiful. Here is a sampling of the gorgeous trees I saw all week.

This was in the FDR memorial. I loved all the different waterfalls in this memorial.
This was near the Jefferson Memorial. So many trees!
This was near the World War II Memorial. This is my favorite kind of Fall tree, the kind that stays green in the middle and turns red/orange on the outside.
This was on the street where we parked to walk around the Mall.
This is Arlington Cemetery. The three spires in the background is the Air Force Memorial.
Still in Arlington Cemetery.
This giant old tree was near the Robert E Lee's mansion. They put a sign out to say don't climb on it--the temptation was definitely strong. It just looks so climb-able!
This is the view from General George Washington's back porch. I've decided I want to live on an estate like Mt. Vernon. It was incredible! Here's an interesting fact we learned from one of the Mt. Vernon guides. She told us that the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association (which runs and supports the estate) found out that developers were getting interested in the hill across the river, so they went and bought the land instead. They even bought the ridge beyond that hill, so that the view that General Washington had from his back porch would be preserved. I'm glad they did it!
This is on the Mt. Vernon grounds near the cemetery for the slaves that worked on the estate.
Still in Mt. Vernon, this is looking down on the farming area.
This is on a pathway in Mt. Vernon.
And yet another pathway in Mt. Vernon. The area was so nice, I took tons of pictures!
This is on the campus of Gallaudet University.
And after I took so many pictures of trees in the DC area, I got home and looked out my back window. I have beautiful trees here, too! I may be content with staying here in the Avenues...at least until Brett graduates.

Love the trees. All the pictures made me look out my window at work and look at all the beautiful trees in the SL valley.
